30 colleges and universities fail to give female athletes fair share
In June 2002, a sampling of 30 colleges and universities in 24 states were cited for failing to give their female athletes a fair share of athletic scholarship dollars as required by law [on website, hyperlink name of Act and link to NWLC fact sheet on EADA) .The amount that each female athlete was shortchanged at the 30 schools ranged from $4,000 to over $26,000 during a female athlete's four-year college career. If the 30 schools had awarded female athletes their fair share, the young women at those schools would have received an additional $6.5 million in athletic scholarships.
