Pregnant and Parenting Students Sue Southern California School District for Being Forced into Substandard Education Programs
In September 2004, a lawsuit was filed in Southern California on behalf of pregnant and parenting students against Antelope Valley Union High School District and the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The students claim they were forced into substandard alternative education programs instead of being given the opportunity to continue their education at their local high school. The alternative school provides support services for pregnant/parenting students but does not provide college preparatory courses and other programs that the local high school does, thereby forcing the students to choose between day care for their children and a good education.
